African Cup of Nations Returns to Traditional Two-Year Cycle
The African Cup of Nations will go back to its traditional two-year cycle following a review of a previous decision. Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda will co-host the next tournament in 2027.
The African Cup of Nations (Afcon) is returning to its traditional two-year cycle after a review of a previous decision made in December to host the tournament every four years instead. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) reversed its quadrennial decision, bringing back the two-year schedule for the competition.
Following this reversal, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are set to co-host the next Afcon tournament in 2027. Subsequent tournaments are scheduled to take place in the years 2028, 2031, and 2033.
The tournament structure will continue under this revised timeline as preparations move forward for the upcoming co-hosted event in 2027 and the following competitions.
