Instagram Launches Desktop Edits App to Challenge Competitor CapCut

Instagram has introduced its standalone video editing app, Edits, for desktop users on macOS. The new platform allows users to integrate AI agents of their choice to assemble videos, directly competing with ByteDance's CapCut.

Meta has expanded its video-editing tools by making its standalone Edits app available on macOS. This release places Instagram in a more direct competition with ByteDance's popular video-editing application, CapCut, which Meta originally sought to challenge when Edits was launched last year.

The new desktop version allows users to edit their videos using artificial intelligence. Specifically, creators can plug in an AI agent of their choice to help assemble their video projects.

Matthew Simari, head of product management for Edits at Instagram, provided details about the new offering during an interview. The rollout signifies a continued effort by the platform to enhance its video-creation ecosystem for desktop users.
