Pope Leo Begins Latin America Tour Weeks After Lung Cancer Surgery

Pope Leo XIV has embarked on a lengthy three-nation tour of Latin America, starting with a visit to Uruguay. The trip takes place just three weeks after the pope underwent lung cancer surgery.

The medical procedure, which involved having part of a lung removed last month, had previously put the entire journey into question.

Following the initial stop in Uruguay, the pope will continue his travels to Argentina and Peru as part of the scheduled itinerary.
