Giresun is a province in Turkey’s Black Sea Region and the name of the central district of the same name. Located on the Black Sea coast, the city is bordered by Trabzon to the east, Ordu to the west, and mountainous areas extending toward Central Anatolia and the Eastern Black Sea to the south. It creates a distinct geographical transition zone between the coast and the inland areas.
Giresun’s history dates back to ancient times. The region holds an important place in the historical development of settlements along the Black Sea coast. The city has come under the influence of various civilizations in different periods, and as a result, traces of both coastal Black Sea life and the multi-layered settlement structure formed throughout history can be seen in its cultural heritage.
One of the most important things that comes to mind when Giresun is mentioned is hazelnuts. Agriculture, especially hazelnut production, plays a decisive role in the province’s economy. In addition, small-scale trade, the service sector, and local activities developing along the coastline are also part of the economic structure. Although the province has a settlement pattern concentrated along the coast, the terrain becomes more rugged as you move inland.
Giresun has the typical rainy climate characteristics of the Black Sea. This directly affects the vegetation, agricultural production, and settlement pattern. The closeness of the coast and mountainous areas is one of the main elements that shape the province’s natural appearance. Giresun Island is also among the city’s symbolic natural and historical landmarks.
Under the Giresun tag, news generally covers local government, traffic and transportation, education, infrastructure, agriculture, social life, and public services in the city. Developments in the province and its districts, municipal work, natural events, and the regional agenda are also among these topics. As in most Black Sea cities, weather conditions, road conditions, and issues related to rural life are also frequently reported.
